“This month’s Mini Regatta took place during the particularly wet and windy few days we’ve had this month. The wind was averaging just under 20 knots with some “character building” gusts up to 25 knots and one maximum gust of 28 knots recorded. Generally all the competitors coped well with the conditions, there was some minor gear failure and the safety coverage was busy but excellent.
Racing-wise the racing was much closer than the results suggest in the Advanced Fleet, with boats giving the Race Committee a challenge by coming over the finish line in a bunch and with many of the difference of positions determined by a matter of feet and in some cases, inches.
In the Beginners Fleet, Emily dealt with the unusual situation of sailing on her own and kept her concentration like a pro and finished every race.
The Lasers and Fevas appeared to relish the conditions.
Finally an aside to the Competitors from the Race Committee….you are all stars and it was our pleasure!”
