Dear Members,
We are sad to hear of the passing of Life Member Chris Martin.
“Chris Martin was an International Judge then a National Judge. He was a friend.
Chris volunteered his time selflessly to AYC and to sailing events. He was always available to me for discussing nuances of the ever changing IYRU, ISAF and World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing.
A “less abled sailor he attended regattas in Chicago annually. He participated as skipper and or crew or keel boats. He was a keen sailor. He often borrowed my foul weather gear and life jackets for these events. In the early years he had his own boat.
Life was not kind to him, yet he participated and gave back to the Sport Of Sailing which he loved. He made the best of it and was active in audits and financial matters.
When Tommy invited Chris and I to do the Redonda Race, on his Tartan 10, Chris actively contributed to getting is around the rock and back. I recall it was windy and with 3 to 4 meter swells. He was very game.
Chris lived at his Cedar Valley Golf Course property with his wife. I visited with them occasionally.
Two years ago Chris sold his properties in Cedar Valley and relocated to the DR with his wife who is from there.
RIP Old friend. Fair winds and following seas.”
